Pengaruh Bahasa Asing dalam Perkembangan Bahasa Indonesia

Kedudukan Bahasa Inggris di Indonesia merupakan bahasa asing pertama. Kedudukan tersebut berbeda dengan bahasa kedua. dalam hal ini menyatakan bahwa bahasa kedua adalah bahasa yang dipelajari anak setelah bahasa ibunya dengan ciri bahasa tersebut digunakan dalam lingkungan masyarakat sekitar. Sedangkan bahasa asing adalah bahasa negara lain yang tidak digunakan secara umum dalam interaksi sosial. Kedudukan Bahasa Inggris di Indonesia tersebut mengakibatkan jarang digunakannya Bahasa Inggris dalam interaksi sosial di lingkungan anak. Hal tersebut menjadi tantangan tersendiri bagi lembaga Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini yang menggunakan bahasa pengantar Bahasa Inggris karena pemerolehan bahasa asing bagi anak berbanding lurus dengan volume, frekuensi dan penggunaannya dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.

Pelaksanaan program pembelajaran dengan pengantar Bahasa Inggris tersebut mendapat berbagai kendala mengingat kedudukan Bahasa Inggris di Indonesia sebagai first foreign languange (bahasa asing pertama). Artinya, Bahasa Inggris hanya menjadi bahasa pada kalangan tertentu, tidak digunakan oleh masyarakat umum seperti jika kedudukannya sebagai bahasa kedua. Hal ini menyebabkan kurangnnya interaksi anak terhadap Bahasa Inggris. Selain itu terdapat juga berbagai pendapat mengenai pemerolehan bahasa kedua atau bahasa asing yang bisa mempengaruhi perkembangan bahasa ibu.

Pendapat tersebut mengungkapkan bahwa secara umum terjadi masalah jika anak dikenalkan pada dua bahasa secara bersamaan pada usia dini. Terutama ketika dikenalkan pada usia pra sekolah setelah bahasa ibu sudah sering digunakan. Pendapat lainnya menjelaskan bahwa jika bahasa kedua dikenalkan sebelum bahasa pertama benar-benar terkuasai, maka bahasa pertama perkembangannya akan lambat dan bahkan mengalami regresi. Selain itu, ada juga yang berpendapat bahwa bahasa kedua akan terperoleh ketika bahasa pertama sudah dikuasai.
